Dallas has a significant African American population, and many if not most are quite stylish. If you want a salon that specializes in black hair, should not be hard to find, look in the phone book or talk to people. Find someone in a store whose hair you admire, and ask them where they got it done.
I don't understand your question. JIm Crow laws ended in Texas about 40 years ago. We can all go to the same hair salons now ...

okay im not sure if that is the name of the store but i heard somebody call it that and it is run by asians most of the time. welli was wondering i was looking for some extension 18'; to put in my hair (dark Brown) and i was wondering if they had any there that was natural and you could dye and curl and do everything to it and if they do for how much are they .. thanks and are they any good .The black hair salon with extensions?
Yup, I get my extensions from a local shop like this





They cost me between 拢30-拢40 depending on the brand which is for one weft which is plenty of hair for me!!





They're human extensions so yeah you can pretty much treat them as your own just bear in mind that they don't get greasy like your own hair so they don't necessarily need to be washed too much! The better care you take of them (eg keep them tangle free, dont use heat on them for no reason...) the longer they will last





I buy the weft and clips seperately and sew them on myself because its better value for money (clip ins can be 拢16 for one row of hair!) and that way you can measure how wide you want each row and decide where to put them yourself...





You can dye extensions but theres no guarantee what colour they will come out like as they usually have a coating on them to make them look shinyThe black hair salon with extensions?
Well a lot of beauty supplies sell hair extensions in packs. They almost always say 100% Human Hair, but don't believe it. If you really wanted 100% human hair you'd be paying at least $200.


The cheapest hair you can buy is synthetic, which is made up of plastic.


Then the higher up you go it turns to animal hair [usually horse,camel, or most commonly yak]. The more expensive you get from that level, the more human hair you get.


Pretty much all extensions have already been colored with dyes. So it's never natural color. Once you get into the animal hairs those are the ones you can color. It's not usually recomended to bleach the hair though.
I had 18'; human hair extensions from Outre (that's the brand of the hair). It costs about $55 for one pack. Outre has very good hair you can dye it, curl it and it does not shed quickly like Milkyway brand and others. Remy would be better to buy though because it lasts longer but is much more expensive.

Well, in New York, it can't be too hard to find a salon that has products to fit your needs. Most beauty supply stores carry plenty of products made for black hair, I don't know specifically what products you need or what brands you like but I reckon you have a good chance of finding it no matter which one you go to.

Well go to a different store with white people I don't know. Or go to the next city not so far away. There's some nice salons out there who are very sweet and caring, willing to talk and not stuck up and judgemental like you experienced. Good luck!

I thought I was going to have the same problem when I 1st started going to my current stylist and I had made my appt only like an hour ahead of time but I didn't have that problem at all. Thats weird...when I go to the ';black'; hair salons I don't get that experience, they are usually very nice and ';motherly'; to me. Maybe it's you, maybe you give off an ';attitude'; vibe and they give it back.

I don't know how much you want to spend on your hair. I live in London but have my hair done elsewhere 'cos i'm not from London. I know that Hype Coiffure that is featured in the black hair magazines wins awards for it's work. My guess is that it would kinda expensive though.





Alternatively, the best thing to do is look around for a sista with a good weave and ask her where she had it done. (Discreetly of course!)





As your hair is natural, you'll probably want your own hair canerowing, then the weave sewn in. This can be very beneficial for your own hair as it is allowed to rest. As long as the canerow ain't too tight and the weave isn't left in for too long, your own hair should benefit from this type of weave. One thing i'd recommend is that when you have it done, get the stylist to leave out enough of your own hair at the very top of your head so that you can straighten it and cover the tracks. This will give you a more natural look but you have to make sure that the texture and colour of the weave and your own hair match.

Try switching the hair grease to a light moisturizer, but it really depends on *your* hair - everyone's hair won't respond the same to the same products. Next time you go to this hair dresser ask her what products she uses - they might even sell them in the salon. Visit some natural hair boards to see what type of products they use.

Definitely try the Santa Fe Day spa in Hoover. I'd been looking for a good hair salon for years. It's really difficult to weed through the people who use outdated techniques and really don't give a flip about the health of your hair. I also have ethnic (black) relaxed hair, and they do a wonderful job. It's a bit more expensive than the little kitchen sink pseudo-salons, but it's well worth the money. I don't know where you could go in the UK. I live in the States. But your hair will not lock up for 6 to 9 months. This depends on your hair type. If you have a very tight curl pattern then it will take from 6 months to a year for it to lock up. If you have a very loose curl pattern it will take from 9 months to a year for your hair to lock up. The locks will come out as soon as you wash your hair before then. You may have to combs the ends out, but the rest of your hair will remain loose. Good Luck :-)

Recommend a Black Hair Salon in Rhode Island and/or Boston?

Hi, I'm new 2 the New England area %26amp; I need a beautician. Since I have no family up here %26amp; very few friends (yes, I need to get out more) I would really appreciate some recommendations on who can really do hair out here.


Basically I'm looking for a relaxer %26amp; 2 have it flat-ironed (but u know, by somebody who knows what they're doing: who'll put oil on ur scalp b4 they put on the relaxer, who uses like 3 different conditioners, who knows how 2 flat iron without totally messing up ur hair, making it dry and brittle!.. some1 who is good!)


I had a bad experience when I was little when this woman made my hair fall out! (my hair is long, it's not really kinky, just really THICK new growth %26amp; grows like crazy! think of a lion)

Good Question. I actually have been looking for awhile and settled with this place in Malden. They relax my hair and cut it to a style I really like. The price is really resonable. When they relax my hair they put the pre-relaxer stuff in it and then they put the relaxer in of my choce (sensative scalp, regular). They rince it and do a conditioner (I think they use 2) and they set you under the dryer. A lot of african american/hatian/jamica women go there and there hair is really really long and they go back time after time.


Oh and they don't do curling irons but the other kind. I think flat irons (i'm not sure of the name). I would get my hair curled but nope not the curling type. If you want more info send me a message

everytime i enter and african american hair salon i get some sought of attitude before i even open my mouth.I've been to 5 hair salons which feel so unwelcoming with stares up and down no respect that i feel i don't want to go in there again but I really need to. im even thinking of buying hair products from the internet then to enter there store.So is this only me whos realized this .Why do black hair salon give customers attitude?

Well go to a different store with white people I don't know. Or go to the next city not so far away. There's some nice salons out there who are very sweet and caring, willing to talk and not stuck up and judgemental like you experienced. Good luck!
Then, why go? Regardless of color, gender, or anything else, if I can not get a decent service, I do not go to the establishment. If they don't like you, that's their problem. I'd think they want your dollars as much as the next guy, but I guess not... You can get the same product from other places, no?
I'm not sure why. I'm black my self and have had that problem only once. Are you just walking into random shops? Maybe they don't except walk-ins. Have your tried setting a appt. or consultation. I thought I was going to have the same problem when I 1st started going to my current stylist and I had made my appt only like an hour ahead of time but I didn't have that problem at all. Maybe ask some of your friend and family about some good stylist w/ no attitudes.

I moved to Portland from the D.C. area, where we have fabulous hair dressers and when I came here I was shocked to find a lack of, especially for black hair. I'm Puerto Rican and my husband is black and my son is mixed. They both have long hair as well. I tried many places and after two years here, I finally found ONE that compares to my hair dresser in DC. He is great and has a passion for healthy hair. Some of you people are really showing your ignorance! African/Black hair is very different from other hair and needs very special hairdressing expertise and products. We don't have very many people with African heritage here in Australia and that type of expertise is hard to come by. Angel is simply asking if anyone knows of a hairdresser in Melbourne with that expertise and the question has NOTHING to do with racism.
Jeez, try and get a straight answer outta some people and they give you a lecture on apartheid! Anyway, Melbourne has some amazing cosmopolitan hairdressers, always has had. You won't have any trouble finding a hairdresser to suit you. Do what you'd do in any other city, when you get settled, look in the yellow pages, pick a few ads from salons that specialise in extensions, c.r's all that, than ring them, ask them the questions that need to be asked, then go and visit them. You're going to be happily surprised I think, Melbourne may turn out to be a whole lot more than you expected. I think you'll find that you don't have to go without anything. Melbourne can hold it's own, against just about any other city in the west, don't worry about that. I'm not biased, I don't even live in Melbourne, although I did for 6 years in the 80's(..I think ha ha) If you do have trouble finding anything, contact a Uni Student Body (any one of them), they won't care that you're not a student, they're used to giving directions to new arrivals, and they know where everything is! Melbourne people are pretty helpful as well, esp for big town folk, if you ask they'll tell you.

Yes, i completely agree, i am an Australian of Anglo decent and have very straight hair, i have found asian hairdressers cut my hair better than ';white'; hairdressers, they just seem to have had more practice with straight hair. So it seems perfectly reasonable to me that some one who is African American would like to go to a hair dresser with experience with their type of hair.





Over the last couple of years there has been quite a few African Immigrants/refugees come to melbourne (same/similar hair type), so a good place to start looking for a hairdresser to suit your needs would be in suburbs where most of these immigrants have settled, i'd start looking in the suburbs with all the african restaurants.

we don't divide our hairdressers by race in Australia. As an African American you are free to travel to any hair salon in the country, whether they be White, Asian, black, whatever.





If you are looking for a hair salon that is owned by some Australians with African origin, or some African American immigrants, or some immigrants from Africa, you won't find many. The major minority group in Australia are from East/south East Asia, not Africa.





Why do you want a black hairdresser anyway? You must come from a really bad part of the US if you are only allowed to go to African American hairdressers.

Stylist do just that...they style. Many of them no nothing about making the hair TRULY healthy, and not many salons will teach you how to have healthy hair. If you think about it...why would they? They don't make a profit by teaching you how to maintain your hair on your own, if they did that....you wouldn't feel the need to go to a salon. The best thing to do is to do research and use HEALTHY natural products for Black hair. Generally, product lines that sell natural products have a hair consutant on board that can offer you advice if needed. Other than that, most of it is trial an error. I am a natural hair stylist, but have taken the time to research and study ways to keep black hair healthy.





You should use hot oil treatments that contain herbs and essential oils (for growth and less breakage) once every two weeks. Use a scalp conditioner of hair cream that contains no petroleum or mineral oil as these products clog pores and prevent hair growth. Protein treatments are also important to keep the hair strong. Moisturize as often as you can, and if you have natural hair....stay a way from shampoos with SLS/SLES. Use natural products as often as possible, and join a friendly black hair care forum that can help you in regard to hair.





Another tip that many people don't know can effect their hair is ...water. You should only rinse your hair with distilled water as hard water DRASTICALLY effects hair. It can make the hair brittle, damaged, dry, and hard...especially our hair type.
